Utes vs. Gators PARKING

Dear Faculty and Students:

There has been a lot of buzz about challenges with parking and traffic on campus for next Thursday, August 31st.   These challenges are anticipated due to the football game scheduled between the University of Utah Utes and the University of Florida Gators.   Some parking areas around the stadium and main campus will begin restricted parking conditions on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 30th.    See the communication forwarded below, and attached file for additional information.

Unless the University issues additional guidance, the College of Pharmacy will remain on a regular class schedule.   We encourage you to plan ahead for your transportation and parking needs for Wednesday afternoon (8/30) and Thursday (8/31).

Please reach out to the Student Affairs team and Dean’s Office if you have any questions about this communication.

The University has issued the following information:

On Thursday, August 31, the University of Utah will begin its 2023 football season with a home game hosting the Florida Gators. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m. but impacts to our campus will begin on Wednesday.

This exciting game will be the biggest home opener we have ever had on campus, and as we look forward to welcoming fans from across the country to the U, we anticipate the need for flexibility and potential adjustments to accommodate the substantial impacts that are expected.

Beginning Wednesday, August 30 at 10 p.m., these parking lots will be closed for game day preparation:

·         Lot 1 (West Stadium)

·         Lot 9 (East Stadium)

·         Lot 40 (Guardsman Way)

The attached map shows the lots that will be closed. At 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, ALL lower and main campus parking lots will be opened for “Crimson” parking. In addition, we expect that visitors may arrive earlier Wednesday to claim a parking spot and begin tailgating festivities early Thursday morning.

For those who must travel to campus on Thursday, August 31, we recommend the following options:

·         Take public transportation, preferably TRAX, which is less likely to be snarled in heavy game-day traffic. Find Park and Ride locations here

·         If you drive, additional staff, faculty and student parking will be available on Stillwell Field from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.

·         Parking will also be available in the Shoreline parking garage, Merrill Engineering building and any northern campus parking lots.
