PMPR 337: Spanish for Pharmacists

PMPR 337 Spanish for Pharmacists is an interactive elective course designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge they will need to interact with a Spanish speaking patient. It will have an emphasis on vocabulary and cultural situations appropriate for health care professionals. The course goal is to improve the basic vocabulary needed to do simple consultations with Spanish-speaking individuals and will focus on community pharmacy scenarios. Grammar instruction will stress contrasting sentence structure and language patterns between English and Spanish and will be directed to supporting verbal and written communication. The course is not intended to create Spanish fluency or proficiency by itself. Many of the lectures discuss disease state specific language and medications to make the learner comfortable talking about these with patients. Blackboard will be the primary means of course content delivery as well as assignment posting. This is a cumulative course in which topics build from preceding material presented. Every week a new topic that includes grammar and healthcare vocabulary will be presented. Students will be evaluated through the following methods: Exams, quizzes, journal entries, voice recordings, and a group country project.

Course website and registration is here.
