School of Medicine building permanently closing

Colleagues:

At long last, the School of Medicine (SOM) Building 521 will permanently close on Monday, November 6, 2023. This closure will allow crews to begin abatement activities in preparation for the building’s demolition next year.

Once the building is closed, all entrances to the SOM and connections to the main hospital will be closed, including the southeast entrance from the Wintrobe Research Building. Access to the building will be restricted to those individuals authorized as part of the abatement and demolition teams.

Faculty, staff, and students traveling to and from the main hospital and buildings on the south side of U of U Health campus should continue using the detour routes shown on this map. Directional signage will be in place.

We apologize for the disruption to campus navigation during this time of abatement and demolition. We are giving rise to a new day in medical education, and future generations will be the beneficiaries of your patience.

Sincerely,

Michael L. Good, MD
