FDA APPE Application Information for the 2024-2025 Academic Year

As the 2024-2025 experiential year approaches, we would like to provide an update to assist students interested in applying for an APPE rotation at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The application period for the 2024-2025 academic year is officially open! A list of rotation sites and detailed application instructions can be found on the How to Apply section of our newly updated website: www.fda.gov/PharmStudentProgram

Pharmacy students participating in APPE rotations with the FDA Pharmacy Student Experiential Program (PSEP) gain insights into FDA’s regulatory framework, drug evaluation processes, and safety programs, acquiring practical skills and supporting tangible impacts on public health outcomes. The program fosters a sense of purpose and commitment to the field of pharmacy and reinforces the importance of public service in safeguarding the nation’s health.

In addition to working closely with their FDA preceptor, PSEP participants have the opportunity to engage in our PSEP Pharmacy Student Lecture Series. This monthly lecture series consists of presentations and tours with agency experts and pharmacy. These activities facilitate student learning about the diverse programs at FDA and other federal agencies and national pharmacy organizations, while affording students from across the country the opportunity to interact and form long-lasting professional relationships.

A complete application includes the following:

1. Resume or curriculum vitae,

2. A one-page essay outlining the student’s career goals and how a rotation at FDA will contribute to achieving those goals,

3. Optional: Up to three preferred rotation sites,

4. Optional: Up to three preferred rotation date blocks,

5. Optional: Preferred rotation setting (e.g., on-site, remote, or hybrid).

The 2024-2025 application deadline has been extended to December 10, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET.

Students who are selected for placement will receive direct notification from a preceptor at FDA between December and March (subject to change). For students who are not selected, our team will send a notification email to experiential coordinators at the closure of our selection period.

Please direct any comments or questions to Pharmacy.Student@fda.hhs.gov.
